The Road to Thirty!

Since returning to the homeland, the hustle and bustle of summer, coaching, and a little wedding planning has kept us busy, which in turn has translated to little attention to our blog.  However, I would like to make up for lost time as I intend to post each day for the next 30 days, as these are what remain until I say goodbye to the twenties.

My goals for sharing these next 30 days, are 1. to be creative and motivate me to write more, 2. to share a bit about the mundane details of my life, and 3. to have a record of some of the fun that will be had in the final days of being 29.

To get started, yesterday was my first day of Fall Swim Clinic for the Arden Park Dolphins, a summer recreational swim team in Arden Park, CA, where I have been the head coach for the past two seasons.  I am excited to have 80 plus swimmers that I will be spending the next 12 weeks with, and to learn, grow, and better help each one improve their technique and joy of swimming.  I am also coaching an adult fitness swim workout on Tuesdays and Thursday nights.  In addition to coaching, I will be substitute teaching and preparing to take the science CSET as I am interested in getting my single subject teaching credential.  My fiance Melissa, is in a post bac program at UC Berkeley where she is taking pre med classes, she is mainly commuting by bicycle and train.  We are both active, enjoy teaching and learning about the outdoors, and smiling.

The calendar for the next month is jam packed, including my first trip to Maui, the Santa Cruz Triathlon, an Olympic Distance Race that I have competed in 4 times, and Levi Gran Fondo, a 103 mile ride with 7500 cyclists, my first organized charity ride.

This month marks the three year anniversary of the loss my loving mother, and I have been remembering her and her generosity and I donated to the Amador County Campout for Cancer, an event sponsored by the STARs, a partner with the local community action agency my mom worked for.  On the 8th of September they will be celebrate survivors and remember those who lost their battle with luminaries lining the Argonaut High School track, it is truly a magical and touching sight.  I also supported a friend who I worked in Florida with in 2004 who is remembering the loss of her brother as she walks 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago.  Sarah I wish you a joyous journey filled with smiles and remembrance, safe passage.  To learn more about her trek or to support her click here.

I prepare to eat some Halibut that my old man and I caught two weeks ago…

Highlights of the day:

30 smooth miles on the American River Bike Trail.

Banana, almond milk and butter, chocolate, hemp protein shake.

Day one adult swim turnout!

Melissa helping me find my missing text in this silly blog program.

Until next time…
